Great news for Local SEO!
The Official Google Blog posted that Google will be adding a new feature to its search engine. Local business results will now be displayed based on settings that are easily accessible on the left sidebar. This is great news for consumers trying to find businesses near their precise location but even more for local online marketing. The changes to location based searches will benefit the end user of the search engine who wants search results tailored to their needs. As Google’s post says “For example, let’s say you’re at work in Mountain View and you’re making plans to see a movie in San Francisco (a common occurrence here at Google).”

You could always set where you were located before on Google but now it is more easily changed for those times when you are somewhere else. Maybe you get a call from your friend who just moved into their new home but does not have internet yet and they are looking for a pizza place near them. You could easily change the city to show results for pizza places in their city.

This is also great for when you are travelling or planning a trip to somewhere, finding restaurants and local shops or services ahead of time. The option to change your location is also great for when Google doesn’t quite pick up your location so well. Personally, here at LocalSEOSites.com we show results for Los Angeles which is no where near our building in Costa Mesa, Ca but since our ISP is based out of Los Angeles those are the results we see. So the change sounds great to us. However, we cannot see this change just yet, after many searches and asking friends & family if they could see the change location button it is still no where to be found. Maybe Google was just announcing the update and it has not hit every one of the search engines servers yet. Whatever the case it is great news for everyone and probably an anticipated change for most people.
